Kantaris Media Player 0.3.4

There is a new media player in the market that vaters to people who are not satisfied with VLC player’s less than aesthetic appearance or require an alternative to Windows Media Player. Kantaris, being developed as an open source program, is based on VLC (VideoLAN Client) and bass audio library. Hence, it can open any video or audio file that you can throw at it and more. Kantaris is sure to appeal to users of Windows Media Player, not only because of the similarity in skin, but the fact that being based on VLC it doesn’t need to install separate codecs. The top navigation panel includes ast.fm and Apple’s movie trailer along with playback and menu. Also included are some nice visualizations while playing audio. The latest release comes with hotkey support and bug fixes for incompatibility with certain audio files. While the player still doesn’t offer support for operating systems other than Windows 2000 and above, its development progress indicates a Linux and Mac compatible version in the future.

For: Sleek skin, vivid visualizations, integration with internet radio and movie trailers.
Against: Need numerous bug fixes.
