Indian Laptop market grows by 85 percent in 3Q 2007

Over 5 Lakh laptops were shipped in the third quarter of the year 2007, representing an 84.8 percent increase over the figure for the same period last year, according to a study released by IDC India in December. Out of these, 43 percent were shipped to the SOHO segment, with the enterprise and education segments following.

The northern states, comprising of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttaranchal and Uttar Pradesh together accounted for 31.8 percent of laptop shipments, representing a 104 percent year-on-year growth.

Desktop PC shipments in the same period grew by 10.1 percent. In terms of brands shipped, HP maintained its lead in both desktops and laptops, with market shares of 15.2 percent and 37.8 percent respectively.
